How Dangerous Is Mexico?

Renowned for violent crime, drugs and gangs, Mexico has a reputation for danger. But is this reputation justified. Is Mexico really as dangerous as is commonly believed?

Who Was "Helen Keller"?

Helen Adams Keller (June 27, 1880 – June 1, 1968) was an American author, political activist, and lecturer. She was the first deaf-blind person to earn a bachelor of arts degree. The story of how Keller's teacher, Anne Sullivan, broke through the isolation imposed by a near complete lack of language, allowing the girl to blossom as she learned to communicate, has become widely known through the dramatic depictions of the play and film The Miracle Worker. Her birthplace in West Tuscumbia, Alabama, is now a museum and sponsors an annual "Helen Keller Day". Her birthday on June 27 is commemorated as Helen Keller Day in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania and was authorized at the federal level by presidential proclamation by President Jimmy Carter in 1980, the 100th anniversary of her birth.

A prolific author, Keller was well-traveled and outspoken in her convictions. A member of the Socialist Party of America and the Industrial Workers of the World, she campaigned for women's suffrage, labor rights, socialism, antimilitarism, and other similar causes. She was inducted into the Alabama Women's Hall of Fame in 1971 and was one of twelve inaugural inductees to the Alabama Writers Hall of Fame on June 8, 2015. Keller proved to the world that deaf people could all learn to communicate and that they could survive in the hearing world. She also taught that deaf people are capable of doing things that hearing people can do. One of the most famous deaf people in history, she is an idol to many deaf people in the world.

Whenever Hip-Hop sonically meets Soul legend Marvin Gaye its always the inception of a classic. Indianapolis, IN producer, Maja7th was inspired earlier this year to put together a 9-track 'instrumental' EP "Songs In The Key Of Marvin" as a tribute to the genius. With fresh arrangements, Maja7th built this EP with a selection of atomised samples and acapellas procured by DJ TopSpeed from various songs off his catalogue, re-purposed each of them using live instrumentation, birthing new vitality into the motown standards. Cut from a similar cloth to Madlib and 9th Wonder, the Indiana musician defines musicality highlighting his extensive repertoire using an array of instruments throughout all 9 blends including piano, retro synths alongside his MPC, with some input from Jerome Sloss [Saxophone] and Andrez Allen [Bass] on the collaboration "When You Want Me." #maja7th #marvingaye #songsinthekeyofmarvin

Every once in a while, by using various conduits of people, places and things, the universe can serve up some of our worst nightmares subtly disguised as some of our biggest gifts, transmuting what seems like a personal Armageddon at the time to an invaluable source of internal resolve. The "Darkness Brim" EP by Raleigh, NC lyricist Lena Jackson highlights some of those relatable life experiences, from domestic abuse, mental illness, and scarcity to finding catharsis through music. For a debut EP, this feels like a truly confessional and transparent introduction to a new artist. Lena Jackson displays her verbal skill-set throughout, in a way that carries on NC tradition set by the likes of Little Brother, J.Cole, and Rapsody. "Darkness Brim" features production from P.A.T Junior, Ryan Crabtree, Kyle Beats, and Shaun "Pyro" Crawford, with only two guest appearances: Precyce Politix [Stallone & Weathers] and Maestra from the latest single "End of the Tunnel." #lenajackson #darknessbrim

Sool - Far Away (Music Video) POP/ELECTRONIC/SOUL

Sool was born from the collaboration between composer/producer Art Bleek and singer/songwriter Mercy Collazo. Bleek, stemming from Paris, France, but now residing in Los Angeles, and Collazo, a California native, form an unlikely yet highly creative duo, enriched by their respective inspirations and influences.

Several songs blending pop, soul and electronic sonority resulted from this fruitful collaboration spanning in mood from melancholy to bliss. The duo's first video "Far Away" reflects the atmosphere and colors of their new album entitled "Quite Obvious", a catchy and melodic release filled with strong yet intimate numbers.

Munich’s new disco sensation Pho Queue drop their long awaited debut record "Sweet“.

Synth boogie, funky to Carribean sounding guitar riffs, Vietnamese Pho flavors and superbad vocals define their signature sound. This tasty collection of the band's highlight tracks boils up a sweet and spicy meal with some known ingredients and some yet to discover.

Singapore Kane - Karma (It's Your Turn) [Prod. Tragic Allies]

'Reap What You Sow, What Goes Around, and Live By The Sword' are all commonly expressed terms to describe the sanskrit definition of 'Karma' [or in physics Newton's Law] one of twelve immutable universal laws that govern each one of us. Despite time every action must have an equal and opposite reaction when we think, speak or act, as the wheel is in constant flux to create balance. This exchange isn't seen as a punishment but as an education for potential growth. Boston's Singapore Kane breaks down this principle with the Purpose [Tragic Allies] produced cut "Karma (It's Your Turn)" from his upcoming album "Steel Pulse, Metal Veins" available soon.

Who Was "Geronimo Pratt"?

Elmer "Geronimo" Pratt (September 13, 1947 – June 2, 2011), also known as Geronimo Ji-Jaga and Geronimo Ji-Jaga Pratt, was a decorated military veteran and a high-ranking member of the Black Panther Party in the United States in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Born in Louisiana, he served two tours in Vietnam, receiving several decorations. He moved to Los Angeles, where he studied at UCLA under the GI Bill and joined the Black Panther Party.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation targeted Pratt in a COINTELPRO operation in the early 1970s, intended to "neutralize Pratt as an effective BPP functionary." Pratt was tried and convicted in 1972 for the 1968 murder of Caroline Olsen; he served 27 years in prison, eight of which were in solitary confinement. Pratt was freed in 1997 when his conviction was vacated due to the prosecution's having concealed evidence that could have affected the verdict. This decision was upheld on appeal.

He worked as a human rights activist until the time of his death. Pratt was also the godfather of the late rapper Tupac Shakur. He died of a heart attack in his adopted country, Tanzania, on June 3, 2011.

Who Was "Liu Xiaobo"?

Liu Xiaobo (Chinese: 刘晓波, 28 December 1955 – 13 July 2017) was a Chinese literary critic, poet, human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate who called for political reforms and was involved in campaigns to end Communist single-party rule in China. He was sometimes referred to as China's Nelson Mandela. He was incarcerated as a political prisoner in Jinzhou, Liaoning. On 26 June 2017, he was granted medical parole after being diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and he died in hospital on 13 July 2017.

Liu rose to fame in literary circles with his literary critiques and he eventually became a visiting scholar at several overseas universities. He returned to China to support the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests and was imprisoned for the first time from 1989 to 1991, again from 1995 to 1996 yet again from 1996 to 1999 for his involvement in the democracy and human rights movement. He served as the President of the Independent Chinese PEN Center, from 2003 to 2007. He was also the president of Minzhu Zhongguo (Democratic China) magazine since the mid-1990s. On 8 December 2008, Liu was detained due to his participation with the Charter 08 manifesto. He was formally arrested on 23 June 2009 on suspicion of "inciting subversion of state power". He was tried on the same charges on 23 December 2009, and sentenced to eleven years' imprisonment and two years' deprivation of political rights on 25 December 2009.
